There are restaurants that open. And then there are restaurants that arrive. Louve, Mumbai's newest European fine dining destination, arrived in early 2026 with the kind of quietly confident entrance that makes you straighten your posture the moment you walk through the door.
Founded by Shikha Begwani and helmed by Chef Selim — formerly of Michelin-starred Mikla in Istanbul — Louve occupies a space that has clearly never heard the phrase 'toned down.' Fourteen-foot crystal chandeliers. Marble floors so polished you can see your own ambitions reflected in them. Garden gazebos that feel borrowed from a Parisian arrondissement and reassembled in Mumbai purely for the drama of it.
Chef Selim's menu navigates French and Italian flavours with the kind of control that only comes from serious classical training, but the results land in a register that's distinctly modern. The bread service alone — warm, hand-rolled, with three butters — sets expectations that the kitchen consistently meets.
Stand-out courses from early visits include a hand-rolled pasta with brown butter and truffle that has no right being as good as it is, and a lamb rack with a herb crust so precise it looked like it had been engineered. The dessert trolley is theatrical in the best possible sense.
Service at Louve runs warm without running familiar — a difficult calibration that most luxury restaurants in India either over- or under-correct on. The sommelier programme is already generating conversation among Mumbai's wine-aware crowd, with a list that skews French and Italian with some smart Indian additions.
A full dinner for two — tasting menu, wine pairing, digestifs, the appropriate amount of bread guilt — will run you approximately ₹15,000–20,000. Which, for the level of execution on offer, is not the outrage it might initially appear. For context: comparable cooking in Paris or London would cost you three times that in a property half as beautiful.
For Mumbai's fine dining scene, Louve is both a benchmark and a dare. To every other restaurant on the circuit: your move.
HEII Score: 4/5 ★★★★. An anchor in the new Mumbai fine dining firmament. Go before everyone else tells you to.
