Masque Mumbai: Is Asia's #15 Restaurant Worth ₹15,000 for Dinner?

Brand
Masque
Location
Mumbai, India

In 2026, Masque holds two titles simultaneously: No. 1 in India on La Liste (score: 94/100) and No. 15 in Asia on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. It also won the Art of Hospitality Award. At this point, India’s most decorated fine dining restaurant is running out of walls to hang the certificates — and running out of reasons to be anything other than exactly what it is.

Masque opened in 2016 in the industrial neighbourhood of Mahalaxmi, Mumbai, a deliberate choice that said: we are not interested in borrowed prestige from a postcode. A decade later, the restaurant sits in a restored mill building on Arthur Bunder Road, and the city has caught up to its conviction.

The Menu

Ten courses. More than 95% of ingredients sourced locally. The philosophy is not fusion, not molecular gastronomy, and emphatically not the sort of pan-Asian-continental hedge that passes for ‘fine dining’ at hotel restaurants across the country. Masque cooks Indian produce with the kind of rigour and restraint that a French chef would apply to his own terroir — and the results are genuinely without precedent in Indian dining.

On a recent menu, standout courses included a delicate preparation of Alphonso mango with fermented dairy and chilli that recalibrated how you think about a fruit you have been eating since childhood. A slow-cooked lamb from the Deccan plateau arrived with accompaniments sourced entirely from within 200 kilometres of the kitchen. A dessert constructed around Coorg honey and jackfruit was the kind of thing that makes you want to immediately book for next month.

The bread service is worth the trip on its own. It is not bread as filler. It is bread as argument.

The Experience

Service at Masque runs warm, precise, and genuinely knowledgeable — the team can discuss the provenance of every ingredient on the plate without making it feel like a lecture. The sommelier programme skews Indian wine and craft spirits alongside serious international selections. The room is intimate, spare, and beautiful in the way that only spaces confident enough to let the food do the talking ever manage to be.

The Damage

The 10-course tasting menu runs ₹8,000–15,000 per person inclusive of taxes, depending on season and wine pairing. For context: this is significantly below what comparable cooking costs in Singapore, Hong Kong, or London. The Art of Hospitality Award did not go to a restaurant that makes you feel like you are paying too much. It went to one that makes you feel like you are paying exactly right.

HEII Score: 4/5 ★★★★

  • No. 1 in India on La Liste 2026 (94/100), No. 15 in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants ✅
  • 10-course menu built on 95%+ local Indian ingredients with genuine culinary ambition ✅
  • Art of Hospitality Award — service that matches the food in precision and warmth ✅
  • Reservations are highly competitive — planning 4–6 weeks ahead is the minimum ⚠️

Verdict: There is no longer any serious argument about whether Masque is worth ₹15,000 for dinner. The only argument is whether you have a reservation. Get one.
