Musso & Frank Grill

Musso & Frank Grill is the oldest restaurant in Hollywood — opened in 1919, frequented by Hemingway, Chaplin, and Fitzgerald, and now Taylor Swift — a time-capsule dining room where the flannel cakes are unchanged and the Martinis are assembled with the precision of a century of practice.

Anisha stepped into Musso & Frank and immediately understood why Los Angeles's most famous dining room has survived a hundred years of culinary fashion without updating a single fixture: it is perfect exactly as it is. The red leather booths, the tuxedoed waiters, the amber-lit bar, and the menu that reads like a 1950s steakhouse classic — this is not nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. It is a restaurant that reached its ideal form early and had the wisdom to leave it alone.

What Anisha Ordered

The Flannel Cakes — Musso & Frank's most famous dish, available at dinner in Hollywood tradition — arrived stacked and golden, dense and yielding in the way only a batter made from a recipe unchanged for over a century can be. Served with maple syrup and butter, they justify the entire journey. 9.5/10. The Classic Caesar Salad was tableside-prepared with the theatricality and precision the dish was invented with — egg yolk, anchovy, garlic, lemon, proper Worcestershire, romaine that was cold and crisp. A Caesar made the right way. 9/10. The Grilled Portobello Mushroom Plate was simply prepared, beautifully seasoned, with house-made vegetables on the side that showed the same restraint and quality that runs through the menu. 8/10.

The Bill

₹11,514 (approximately $138) for three dishes. Hollywood fine dining from a century-old institution at these prices reflects LA's premium market and the restaurant's iconic status — this is a once-in-a-lifetime spend for good reason.

HEII Score: 2/5 ★★

  • Flannel Cakes are a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience ✅
  • Tableside Caesar Salad is the correct way to eat a Caesar ✅
  • 105-year-old atmosphere is irreplaceable — nowhere else in the world is this room ✅
  • Vegetarian options are limited by the classic American steakhouse menu ⚠️

Verdict: Musso & Frank Grill is not just a restaurant — it is Hollywood history that happens to serve dinner. Taylor Swift's table has impeccable instincts, and the flannel cakes alone make the visit mandatory for anyone who finds themselves in Los Angeles. Come once. Order the pancakes. Understand why this room is irreplaceable.
